Detailed Itinerary of 4 Days Maasai Mara Safari from Mombasa
Day 1: Mombasa – Maasai Mara National Reserve
To start your safari, our representative will meet you at your hotel in Mombasa and transfer you to Mombasa International Airport. From here, you will board a scheduled flight for about 2 hours direct to Maasai Mara National Reserve. On arrival at one of the airstrips serving the reserve, you will be greeted by a standby safari guide and start your Maasai Mara safari as you head to your lodge for check-in. Along the drive, keep an eye out for wildlife such as lions, leopards, herds of elephants, and buffalo, among others.
Maasai Mara National Reserve is Kenya’s flagship wildlife destination, covering an area of 1,510 square kilometres and lying at an elevation of 1,500 – 2,170 metres above sea level. At this altitude, the climate is surprisingly mild considering its close position to the equator. The nights in Maasai Mara are actually cold as well as early mornings, so we advise you to pack some warm clothing. The Maasai Mara is renowned for its prolific wildlife, including the famous African Big Five and the Great Wildebeest Migration. The savannah plains of Maasai Mara play host to the annual migration of over 2 million wildebeests, accompanied by thousands of gazelles and zebras in their search for water and green pasture.
On arrival at your safari lodge or camp, lunch will be served after checking in. Enjoy a few moments of relaxation, then later, head out for an afternoon game drive before returning to camp for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2: Full Day in Maasai Mara National Reserve
Today is focused on exploring Maasai Mara National Reserve on morning and afternoon game drives, which are the best times of the day for game viewing, as the wildlife is at its most active. So, expect an early start.
After a delicious breakfast at the lodge. We will board our private custom safari vehicle and head to the Maasai Mara for a game drive in search of wildlife. Your safari vehicle is equipped with a radio, which your safari guide uses to communicate with other guides for an incredible sighting; it also features a rooftop which is opened while in the reserve for uninterrupted views of the animals and the stunning landscape.
If the Big Five are on your checklist, you are in for a show. Maasai Mara National Reserve is home to all five members: lions, leopards, buffalo, elephants and rhinos, and during the game drive, you will enjoy seeing them. Though they were crowned the five most dangerous animals to hunt in Africa by old-time hunters, today you can only hunt them with your eyes and cameras.
At lunchtime, you will stop at one of the picnic sites for your meals and a good stretch before continuing with your adventure in the afternoon. Though it is said that the best chance of seeing the big cats in action is during the dark hours of the night, cheetahs do most of their hunting during the day as a way of avoiding losing their kills to nocturnal predators like hyenas, lions and leopards. At sunset, you will return to your safari lodge in time for dinner and overnight.

Should your Maasai Mara Safari visit coincide with the Great Migration (between July and October), you will witness and understand why it is called the Greatest Show on Earth. See massive herds of over 2 million wildebeests and thousands of other herbivores, zebras and gazelles, on their journey in search of water and green pasture throughout the Maasai Mara plains. You will also be treated to extraordinary sightings of other wildlife species, including the towering giraffes, buffaloes, cheetahs, African wild dogs, warthogs, vervet monkeys and baboons and several colourful bird species.
Enjoy picnic lunch and continue with the game viewing till late afternoon, return to your lodge, join other visitors around the camp and share stories about the magic of Maasai Mara and your encounters, and enjoy dinner and an overnight stay.
